Nobody Builds A PDU Better Than Our Customers

Build Your Own PDU, step 1 (choose Smart or Switched), step 5 (select outlet type), step 7 (choosing color quantity and quote) “If you build it, they will come.” Many people think they recall this line from Kevin Costner’s 1989 baseball film “Field of Dreams,” but the actual line is, “If you build it, he will come,” referring to the main character’s late father, John Kinsella. Semantics aside, the line holds a powerful message: when you set out to create something of your own – something built for your needs and no one else’s – it’s likely others will find value in it, as well.

The HDOT is the most feature-rich rack mount PDU we’ve developed to date, and it’s perfect for customers who have between 36 and 54 devices in their cabinet, need quick-turn PDUs with a large number of outlet variations, are looking to minimize power drops, and need high-temperature PDUs. The proprietary outlet design of HDOT makes it the perfect tool for capacity planning, power density, and uptime.

Four Capacity Planning Factors In A New Build
Josh Schaap
May 11, 2016
Pardon the pun, but the origin of the phrase, “getting your ducks in a row,” is a little, well, fuzzy. It’s not clear whether the term comes from hunting, sports, or - most likely - the practice of mother ducks encouraging their babies to line up in a row before heading to the pond. Either way, having one’s proverbial ducks in a row is nearly always a good idea before undertaking a sizable project. Take, for example, capacity planning in a new build. That’s one situation where you don’t want to jump in headfirst without a solid plan.

What’s The Real Cost of Data Center Downtime?
Josh Schaap
May 06, 2016
Ever experienced that sinking feeling when you check in on your 401k only to find that it’s been slowly hemorrhaging your future away for the past six months? Financial advisors will, of course, tell you to hold tight, play the long game and wait out the ups and downs. That’s a good strategy when you’ve got years until retirement, but it’s not a particularly helpful approach when you’re running a data center.

Power measurement in the data center could be one of the most important capacities to measure (and by that rationale, monitor) on a frequent basis. Without power functioning your assets, nothing is going to work. Monitoring the power gives us a heads up if power is behaving itself; it's just as important to be able to know if power is decreasing, just as much as if it's increasing.

Keeping Up With Data Demands In The Medical Field
RJ Tee

Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Wise, biological scientist in the oncology lab of Christopher Cogle Things, as they say, change. This statement holds particularly true in the medical field, where advancements often take place at lightning speed. New technologies supplant old ones overnight, and best practices are rewritten with each passing day. No one knows this more than our client, University of Florida Health. As technologies such as X-ray and PET scans have been converted from film to digital imaging and as medical records transition from paper to digital, the need for secure, HIPAA-compliant servers has grown exponentially. As a result, UF Health has expanded from a single data center to four over the past decade, with Data Center Manager Joseph Keena overseeing each move.

Why We’re Your Power Strategy Experts
Josh Schaap
April 29, 2016
At Server Technology, we don’t just bill ourselves as “The Power Strategy Experts,” but rather, “Your Power Strategy Experts.” When you think about it, there’s a difference between those two concepts. Anyone can claim to be the best in their field, but it takes a special relationship with your customers to rightfully say you’re in their corner – and to have them consistently back up that statement. Calling ourselves “Your Power Strategy Experts” says, “we’ve got your back through thick and thin” and, “we’ll always be there to help solve your power problems.”
