    5G's 'G-wiz' Environment

    by Annie Paquette

Unlike other much-hyped technologies that contributed very little improvements to our every-day lives, 5G networks are poised to have a dramatic and positive impact throughout the world in the very near term. Those who benefit from 5G services do not have to be the bearer of a thousand-dollar smartphone, they will realize its benefits through enhanced health, security, and transportation services -- just to name a few.

What is a Data Center PDU? Defined.

    by Annie Paquette

With a host of PDU types available in the market, understanding what a Data Center PDU does can be confusing. This Server Technology blog clears the air on Data Center PDUs.

HDOT Cx in the Realm of Great Ideas: Part 1

    by RJ Tee

While the Server Technology engineers here in Reno are a little more on the ball than Frank and Earnest, the newly launched power distribution unit we’ve dubbed ‘HDOT Cx’ could arguably be a turning point in network PDU history.

    ZTP = PDQ

    by RJ Tee

If there was ever a situation where practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect, this is it: setting up a PDU manually – without ZTP. As you can see in our new white paper, Server Technology is in the business of making provisioning our power distribution units simpler for you.

Groundhog Day feat. Server Technology's PDUs

    by RJ Tee

On February 2, 2018, Server Technology will join, at least in spirit, the crowd gathered at Gobbler’s Knob outside Punxsutawney, PA. There, Groundhog Day celebrants will await the appearance of Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who will supposedly determine the length of winter by his ability to see his own shadow. We will also be joining countless others in their annual viewing of the Bill Murray classic, Groundhog Day. As movie fans know, Bill Murray plays a wretched reporter named Phil Connors, who finds himself stuck reliving the same day over and over again. Over the course of the film, which takes place over a ten-year period of real-time, Connors eventually redeems himself. Not only does he win the heart of Andie McDowell’s character Rita, but he also becomes a better person in the process. While much has been written about the spiritual and philosophical virtues of the classic comedy, the thing that strikes us is the idea that making improvements is a daily commitment.

    Servertech and You: Technical References

    by RJ Tee

At Server Technology, we are focused on making the process of identifying, selecting, and purchasing a rack PDU as simple as possible. (I mean, have you seen our Rack PDU Selection Wizard?) Our dedication to support does not stop when the rack PDU ships. In fact, that is when it begins. Our technical support and resources even exceed the level of support we provided when you were just thinking about buying the rack PDU.

The Advantages of an Uncluttered Rack, Part II

    by RJ Tee

As mentioned in our previous post on Alternating Phase rack PDUs, many of us at Server Technology (including myself) like to talk about the benefits of our approach to handling three-phase power distribution within the rack. While the subject of three phase is de rigueur in the fashionable world of high density, there is a lot to talk about above and beyond the distribution of large amounts of power in a very small footprint.

    What is a PDU?

    by RJ Tee

What is a PDU? This may seem like a rather existential question, particularly from the blog space of one of the leaders in the marketplace. So why ask such an obvious question? Well, because the answer is not entirely clear. The mission-critical data center world is chock full of acronyms, those pesky, foreshortened forms of communication that allow us to sum up so much in an efficient amount of space. But when they take on a life of their own, they become like the little monsters in the movie ‘Gremlins.’

The Problems And Solutions Of Capacity Planning

    by RJ Tee

It’s never fun to lose sleep over a problem, but night after night, many of us toss and turn, worrying about the things both within our control and beyond it. For the folks who run data centers, it’s no different.

HDOT: It’s Better Than the Average PDU

    by Josh Schaap

The standard power distribution unit (PDU) being used in most data centers today has eight power outlets and a basic on/off switch. It’s bulky and difficult to attach to a rack, so it typically rests on the ground. Further, there is no way of measuring how much power is flowing in and out of the unit at any given time. In truth, this traditional PDU is a 20th-century technology that should not be used to provide power to sensitive 21st-century data center equipment.
