Our Recycling and Green Initiatives
• To reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2012.
• Implementation of smart, efficient strategies to achieve green IT using green IT products and technologies
• Energy efficient server hardware and better server utilization. Careful planning and management of server workloads is in place allowing for better control of devices and maximizing power consumption savings.
• Server Virtualization Software- Server virtualization has been implemented and has reduced the number of physical servers by over 50% in the last year by consolidating many virtual servers onto fewer physical servers. As a result of the reduction in physical servers, associated power and cooling requirements have also been reduced.
• Server Power Management- Implementation of Server Technology's Sentry Power Manager (SPM) has allowed for measuring and monitoring energy usage along with server environmental factors. Using SPM provides power saving capabilities allowing for better management and reduction of energy consumption in the server room.
• IT Asset Recycling- The fastest growing toxic waste comes from computers, mobile phones and other electronics. All IT equipment including old or non-functioning monitors, computers, printers and servers are disposed of by taking them to a certified IT asset recycling center. This center, in addition to recycling old equipment, takes all working parts and uses them for fixing/creating new equipment that is then given to organizations that support disabled individuals.
• Going Paperless- Initiatives are currently in place to move Server Technology's current manufacturing operations to a paperless environment.
Recycling Efforts:
• Server Technology's recycling efforts include paper, cardboard, aluminum and plastic.
• Use certified recycling methods for our toxic chemicals recycling over 14,000 pounds of copper and 28,000 pounds of steel annually.
• Recycle all of the wooden pallets used to deliver and ship products.
• Server Technology recycles most of its paper products and each employee contributes to the paper reduction initiative by personally accounting for their entire paper usage and disposal needs.
• Old IT Hardware is donated to non-profit organizations that recycle used computers, printers and monitors.

European Union Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
It is Server Technology's intention to offer a program for the collection, recycling and recovery our products covered under the WEEE directive (2002/96/EC) for products subject to disposal in Europe. This program will either be offered by Server Technology or by parties identified as responsible by local regulations. Details on this program will be made available in the near future.
